While MAGFAST accommodates most cases, there are a few exceptions
As you know there is no limit to the different types of cases out there, each having varying thicknesses and design features.
MAGFAST charging products will accommodate most of these, however, once in a while, there will be one that is a bit too thick or “chunky”. Waterproof or “safety” style cases generally fit this category.
Case thickness is not a limitation of MAGFAST Wall itself, so much as the length of the optional adapter tips, as well as the design of a particular case.
For these types of cases, charging with a cable is easy as usual with all MAGFAST products
For many folks, however, all the talk above is moot, because many modern phones now feature Qi wireless charging.
Simply snap a MAGFAST Air right on top of MAGFAST Wall and pop your phone in any case right on for easy, fast, true wireless charging.
“WHY?”...A Talk on Tech & Engineering
MAGFAST Wall is a bit larger than a regular outlet, in fact. It extends a bit beyond the outlet in order to accommodate extra internal ‘headroom’ above the electrical outlets for this mechanism, plus the height of the tips. The tip has to fit down inside of Wall when it is inserted fully. There’s only so much room below the top surface of the unit before you get to the 110v outlets. Additionally, there has to be room for a precision mechanism inside the unit in order to make height adjustments to the tips and allow for a gentle fore/aft tilt.
We make a promise to our customers that the tip will adjust down to 'zero’ (in the event there is no case at all) and extend fully to fit all but the very thickest cases.
In our experience, the problem with thicker cases is not the length of our tips, but the fact that the thicker 'protector'-type cases often have a flap/trap-door covering the charging port, which makes mounting on any kind of mount or stand difficult.
Again, using one of our three (3) MAGFAST Family mini-cables or even a standard USB cable is always an alternative way to charge devices protected by one of these types of safety-cases. And, if your phone features the new Qi wireless charging standard, you won’t need a cable at all.
Brilliant!
Our MAGFAST chargers follow the Qi Wireless Standard which has been adopted by hundreds of manufacturers (ex. Apple, Google, LG, etc.). This means that any product/device that says they are compatible with Qi charging will work with our products. This means popsockets, phone cases, phones, etc. If there is metal on the back of your device that blocks the Qi charging coil then the strength of the charge will be reduced greatly if not completely. Not only that but when metal is introduced to a wireless charging coil the metal will heat up. So it's best just to stay away from placing metal on wireless chargers.
That said, our chargers have a great function called LEDlicious. One of the functions of this is that the LEDs will turn red when metal is present letting you know that there is an issue.
